Apply to extend or switch to Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) leave to remain.
You can also add some family members (‘dependants’) to your application. For example, if you are applying with your partner and children, you can all apply on the same application.
If you are switching
There is a 2-stage application process to switch to this type of leave – stage 1 (apply for endorsement) and stage 2 (apply for leave).
You can either:
- apply for stage 1 and wait until you receive your letter of endorsement before applying for stage 2
- apply for stage 2 while you wait for your letter of endorsement
- apply for stage 1 (paper form) and stage 2 (online form) at the same time
You must apply for stage 2 before your current visa or leave expires. Applying for stage 1 only does not extend your leave. If you apply for stage 2 before stage 1, and your stage 1 application is unsuccessful, you will lose both application fees.
Applicants using the premium service cannot attend their appointment for stage 2 until they have received their letter of endorsement.
If you are extending
You need to complete stage 2 only.
Before you apply
Before you begin your application, read the full guidance on:
- how to apply and required documents
How long it takes you to complete the application will depend on your particular situation. You will be able to save your application and come back to it at another time if you need to.
If you are inactive for 25 minutes you will be automatically logged out.
If your visa application allows you to stay in the UK for more than 6 months at a time, as part of the application process, you are also required to apply for a biometric immigration document, commonly known as a biometric residence permit (BRP).
How we use your data
The Home Office will use the personal information you provide to consider your application. We may also share your information with other public and private sector organisations in the UK and overseas. For more detail please see the Privacy Notice for the Border, Immigration and Citizenship system. This also sets out your rights under the Data Protection Act 2018 and explains how you can access your personal information and complain if you have concerns about how we are using it.
You will only be considered for Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent). You will not be considered for any other type of leave to remain. You must use a different form if you want to stay for another reason.
