Use this form to register as a British overseas territories citizen and a British citizen if:
- you are a direct descendant of someone who held Citizenship of the United Kingdom and Colonies due to their birth in the British Indian Ocean Territory – you are the direct descendant of your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, great-great-grandparents and so on (this does not include your aunts, uncles or cousins)
- you have never previously held the citizenship status(es) you are applying for.
You cannot apply online if you live in the Channel Islands, on the Isle of Man or in a British Overseas Territory. You should use the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, British Overseas Territory form.
